Beach Inspired Cabinet

I've had this quirky red cabinet for a few years. I've always loved how weird and kind of ugly it was. It's been a functional cabinet in Hunter's bathroom. I like a bathroom to have drawers for storing items like toothpaste and hair brush. Since we don't have drawers in his bathroom vanity, this cabinet has been storing all his necessities. Not to mention cars, Lego and water toys for the tub.
It was time for this little cabinet to get a makeover.
I started by using my circular saw to remove the sort of scalloped top. I knew all along I wanted to add a top to the cabinet. In order to add a top, I had to remove the scalloped edge and the dividers.

Once the scalloped parts were removed, I started sanding the cabinet, making sure to remove enough paint to give the primer some grip. Next I gave the cabinet two coats of primer, then two coats of latex paint by Nautica Paints in Crystal Bay Blue.
I created a new top using my Kreg jig and some 2X6 pine lumber I had left over from a project. The seal the top, I applied some soft dark wax to the wood to give it a light beach feel.
Last step was to add new drawer hardware. I went with these cute water faucet knobs from Hobby Lobby.
I'm thrilled with how this cabinet turned out. The transformation makes me smile!!! Best of all Hunter is happy with how it looks now.
