Green Plaid, Natural {+a Bit of Glam!} Christmas Home Tour

For our Christmas home I'm sharing how to reuse cherished holiday decor from year-to-year, changing it up a bit to keep it fresh. This is real-life decorating that's doable for anyone! I don't deck out the whole house, just our great room, and not every surface - but it's amazing the holiday cheer a few sprigs of cut boxwood or a jar of ornaments can add to your home.
My goal is to spend as little as possible, so I add only 1-2 new things each year that will make an impact and this year is the year of green plaid!
Two-and-a-half yards of a quiet and calming green plaid ended up going a long way: 30 minute-to-make envelope pillows; paper mache covered letters, a table runner, pillow 'ribbons' and more. Pretty good value for $13 - love those 40% off coupons!
Here's the view when you walk in - welcome! The one nice thing about a great room is that you can see all the decorations from everywhere, so the 'living room' tree is also a dining room tree and a kitchen tree, too!
Quick envelope pillows are such a fast way to update your decor at any time of the year and with 40%-off coupons, fabric is an inexpensive way to add seasonal colors.

{You can find a step-by-step tutorial linked in the tour post on the blog - they really are easy - just a couple of straight-stitch sewing needed.}
The simple, calming mantel started with paper mache NOEL letters covered in the green plaid and then I added our 4-year-old vintage sheet music wreath, some candles, trees, antlers and green cuttings. {link to wreath tutorial is in the post, too, and the NOEL tutorial is coming soon}

And I HAVE to have lights on the mantel each year - it makes me so happy to see it lit up during December!
I was given a box of antler cast-offs (the deer shed them naturally) that I've been using in our decorating for a few years - painting some of the tips gold just refreshes them a bit and gives them a bit of holiday sparkle.
Using some of my past holiday DIYs around the living room makes me happy - I loved these when I made them and I still do! {you can find the JOY sign & coasters tutorials linked in the post}
A cozy, hand-knit throw, a christmas pillow, ornaments and an updated holiday chalkboard {with one of my favorite DIYs- a pom pom wreath}. Sweet & easy.
We even found a brand-new way to use our book page ring garland and 3D music sheet ornaments, which we've had for years.
Our last stop is the dining room where a simple fringed, no-sew runner highlights more cuttings, antlers, and candles. Our pom pom garland found a new home, too, on the china cabinet.

Do you like to reuse your Christmas decorations in new ways each year, too? It's fun to come up with a different look using older items mixed with 1-2 new elements.
