Old Fence Puts Final Touch On Our Christmas Tree

I don't know about you, but when a family member tells me their old fence has fallen down and they need to replace it, I get excited. I get more excited when they look at me funny when I tell them I want the old fence. (They have no idea how hard it is to find perfectly weathered wood for projects!!!!!!)
That is exactly what happened this fall. My aunt's fence around her pool fell down in one spot. My cousin was replacing it for her and was complaining about having to get rid of all the old stuff. When I told him to bring it to my house, he was both happy and confused. He was happy he didn't have to make a trip to the dump and confused because he didn't know what I would want with an old fence.
The first thing I did with some of the fence was make a box for our Christmas tree to sit in. I love the weathered look of the wood and since we decorated the tree with natural and rustic elements this year, it was the perfect touch to finish off the tree.
Not only does it look amazing, but it serves a purpose as well. I wanted our tree to be a little taller so we added a "floor" inside the box for the tree to sit on. I still have many fence boards to work with and my aunt just told me she is going to replace the rest of the fence in the spring so I can have the rest of her old, "weathered-beautifully" fence then!!! Merry Christmas to me!!
