by The Hometalk Team
Oh, boy. That face is pretty angelic, but you know this doesn't end well. There's been a lot of talk on Hometalk about avoiding toppling Christmas trees and we'd love to know what you do in YOUR home! How do you keep your kids, pets, and tree safe? What other safety measures do you take that might help your fellow Hometalkers? Tell us in the comments so we can learn from each other!
UPDATE: Thank you everyone for your brilliant tips! We turned your answers into a helpful post for the whole community to enjoy - see it HERE.

My cat hasn't climbed the tree yet - he's more into playing with the ornaments to get my attention - I see him looking straight at me when he's pawing at an ornament or the ribbons I use as garland. And he loves to bunch up the tree skirt, as it is crinkly like plastic bags (which he loves). I work out of town three days a week, so he's alone (YES - someone comes in daily to check on him!) so right now I'm debating putting up the tree, not knowing if he'll climb it or not when he's bored and lonely. I have to decide soon, won't I?

I have heard if "Vicks" is applied the cats will avoid the tree. Is this true?

once the tree is up and where you want it, simple precaution of clear fishing line tied to the "trunk" of the tree about a foot from the top and then attached to the wall behind the tree will help hold the tree in place to keep todlers and pets safe during the holidays. When the line is attached draw it taunt so there is not enough slack for the tree to fall
