Vintage Printables Holiday Wreath DIY

Every year for the past several years I have made at least 1 new wreath for our home for the holidays. This year I was hoping to come up with something to put in that dead space between the 2 breakfast room windows, but was running short on ideas till I came across a stack of vintage print craft paper in the drawer with my daughter’s art supplies. I had recently seen a beautiful but pricey wreath made from old hymnal pages at one of my local antique shops and thought I could surely make something similar for a whole lot less. I should totally DIY my own vintage printables holiday wreath!
So with that in mind, I pulled out the vintage print paper I had and headed to a couple of my favorite vintage graphics blogs – The Graphics Fairy and Old Design Shop – to search for some Christmas music printables to add to my paper selection. Of course they had tons of great graphics to choose from. I opted to print the music pages 2 per sheet (horizontal orientation) and double sided, and just trimmed off the margins so each page looks like it came right out of an old book. Mixed in with my printables are my craft papers and a few old Christmas card images cut down to the same 8″x”4″ size sheets. My wreath used about 80 pieces of paper in this size sheet.
Next, I picked up a green foam floral wreath at the craft store ( i like the green ones better than white because they are denser and don’t shed) and grabbed my glue gun to get started.

To press the pieces of paper to the foam wreath without burning my hands over and over, I opted to use an old lipgloss tube as my placement “dowel.” I figured a pencil might punch through the paper, and I wanted a little bit wider surface to make sure the paper stuck to the wreath securely. I simply placed the end of the lipgloss tube down on the middle of a single sheet, pulled up the paper on opposite corners to gather it around my tube and grab it with one hand, and put a large dot of hot glue on the end.
Then I pressed the paper firmly onto the wreath with my tube till it was set in place.
Each piece of paper basically stands on it’s own now.
I repeated this process with each piece of paper about 3/4 – 1 inch apart at various angles around the front of the wreath. Since mine will be hanging on a wall, there’s no need to cover the back.
As you can see, I mixed my papers using some lighter and darker pieces to give it variation, and a few sepia toned images of Santa and other Christmas card images mixed in too. You can “fluff” the paper a bit to cover any holes or areas where the green wreath might be showing through since the paper is fairly stiff. I also laid my wreath flat and walked around it to make sure no green was showing on the sides, since they will be visible when you hang it and walk by.

I then added a little ribbon drop and a bow to hang it from, and voila!
And here it is between my kitchen windows looking lovely…
I could see this same technique used for all sorts of holiday and everyday wreaths….

Colorful book pages from children’s books

Fashion magazines for something more modern

Simple black and white pages from music books

Easter printables and pastel ribbon

Red, white and blue for the 4th of July

French script printables for an everyday home decor addition

Recipes for a kitchen wreath

and so many more!

Cutting the paper took the most amount of time, and the rest was so easy. Plus I managed not to get a drop of glue on my fingers. A real Christmas miracle for me!

So if you still have room for a holiday wreath and want to DIY one with only a few supplies needed, this is the one to try.
