Wood paneling - horizontal or vertical?

Question

So I am finally tackling the messed up wall in my upstairs (see attached pictures - I used water based primer, instead of oil to create the bubbles). I do not want to spackle or re-paint (such a headache!)...so I've decided to do wood paneling. My question is - should I do vertically or horizontally? This is a small room with an even shorter ceiling (only 6.5 feet, if that). Any thoughts? Thanks so much!

Thanks for response, I like the look too. I think it's a more modern paneling look. (Love the cabin, by the way!) You think horizontal would be OK even with super short ceiling?

Check out your local Habitat Resale Store for wood flooring that you could use for a different look. It can be primed and painted and you could safely hang a large mirror on the wall to reflect light. Me, I'd do horizontally. But it's what YOU like that counts. Best of luck.
