DIY Painted Counter Tops

In our very first own we bought an older house that needed a lot of updating and fixing up. We were just barely out of school and young, so we didn't have a ton of money to do things to our house, but we were able to do a lot of painting to make it updated (like we painted all the trim and doors white). I always wanted nicer counter tops, they were ugly and plain but we never could afford anything, including laminate. So instead one weekend I decided to paint them!! It was easy to do and I loved the outcome, they looked so much better. The whole thing cost about $150.
Here is the before picture. The counter tops were an off white color already, so I left them that color. But you can paint them a base color. I cleaned the counter tops and let them dry.
Then I covered and taped everything with plastic and newspaper to get ready for painting.
Using a splatter technique I painted the counter top. I did things very randomly and some times made some darker spots like you have in real stone.
Then we used a glaze to put over the paint. I put that onto the counter top and let it dry completely. Then I painted the back splash. Make sure to click over to the blog post to see the extra glaze I used (I have a picture of it on there).
Here is what it looks like afterwards, so much better!
This was my favorite part of the whole counter tops, I loved how the bar looked! We had these counter tops for a year (we ended up selling the house and moving) but they did great, even up again my three crazy boys!! When we sold the house the next owners really liked the look of the counter tops, so that was good!! Make sure you check out my blog post, I go into a lot of detail and have step by step instructions.

This is beautiful. We are in the same boat right now. There is nothing wrong with the cabinets and counters themselves but they have an ugly pink laminate. Were yours a laminate? I have been racking my brain of what can be done over the laminate. Please let me know if you have any ideas. Thank you.
