I would like to see dark colored trim or light colored trim with a darker glaze on top to look good with the texture walls, lots of light or not. Best, Charles
  • Call me "old fashioned" but I'm still a big fan of the simple white colored trim. Of course, if the rest of your trim is not white, paint this to match the other stuff. Pretty sure that's the basis behind AK's question.

@Dan's of Central Florida, Inc. Just a heads up on this suggestion. My craft room is nearly the same color as these walls and I used white trim. The trim seems to get lost in the overall appearance. I used a high gloss white to paint the trim and crown molding. It just kind of fades out the white. I was thinking of using a rich reddish brown color.

I agree with Peace. I really like natural wood trim, but I know it's less forgiving than white trim if you are doing the work yourself and are as sloppy as I am. It's harder to hide nails and gaps, etc.
  • You're right, Dan! We do still like dark satin or painted wood trim, and find it a great way to really add an upscale feel to a home & a basic wall color. However, mismatching trim in the main areas of your home is a bad idea. (Bedrooms, etc, are a different story) While trim is still just fine too - and if you go with that I would recommend going with a LARGE baseboard and crown. Peace Paintings suggestions are right on!

I like Ultra white...... but it is not my home.

I love Home Depot's Ultra White as trim throughout any house of color, keeping in mind, I ALWAYS paint the ceiling the same as wall color or a 75% dilution of the wall color as my 5th wall. Told my rooms feel warm and cozy and they are huge ( i.e. 18 x 24, 14 x 18, etc.).

Get some samples of wood trim in different tones and a white painted sample. Take them home and see which one you like best with your walls. :-) Like paint, you really can't tell for sure until you see it in the home with the lighting that's there. Also try to include in this 'trial run' as much of the other elements that'll also be used in the room to get a better overall idea. At the end of the day, it's your choice. Don't be swayed by other's 'I would do' comments....unless you see one that says to you "Yup! That sounds like me." :-D

White sounds great, but how about a shade lighter then the wal. White does give it a sharp clean look.

I did my kitchen in clay with a dark brown/rust trim called "Santa Fe Artisan" from Lowes. I love it but I am going for a southwestern look and that may not be everyones choice.
