How to match wood floor, stone walls, sofit and ceiling

We live in a newer log cabin. We are finishing our walkout basement to include a mstr bath. This mstr bath will have no windows. I am wanting a country rustic spa look.We have a restored clawfoot tub which will be the center of attention. The double vanity is a medium oak color with darker edges and a cream colored granite top. Floor will be hickory hardwood. We want to have partial stone walls with a stone wall shower. The ceiling has to dip down over the vanity to cover the ductwork. We need help finding ideas for the walls and ceiling. I wanted an embossed tin ceiling for the lower soffit but it's way out of our price range. If we drywall the ceiling and trim it with beams does the wood have to match the floor and how do we tie in the upper ceiling to the lower ceiling over the vanity.

  • Hmm, is it possible that you can just finish off the ceiling with typical drywall for the time being and perhaps add in the tin ceiling at a later time when you have the money?
  • Embossed metal tile ceilings are not that expensive. Of course if you purchase the matching trims then they can become a bit higher. But I would look into that a bit more. There are some pretty inexpensive panel systems available these days.

After I posted this I searched more on the internet and saw vinyl embossed tile that looks just like the tin tiles. The price however seemed about the same. 18.00 a square foot not including the trim that goes between each one. Is that the going price for both tin or similar or am I not looking at the right places?
  • Home Depot has them for around $33 per 2x4 tile nail up type. Just search their site for metal ceiling tiles.

Hickory wood floor in a Bath?....I would rethink that aspect...slate or some nice granite would be far more robust or water protection.

The kind we purchased is guaranteed to be moisture resistant and is floating kind that locks together. The area in and around the shower will be stone ( or tile if I have my way ;-) . I love that tuscan look on one of the pictures that was posted!
  • Julie, you can purchase paintable wall paper with an embossed design that looks like tin. Once applied, make your first coat an oil based primer to seal the surface. Then, paint it with any acrylic colors to mimic the tins.

WOW! I think I LOVE that idea! How is it as far as being in a bathroom with the humidity? Any peeling problems? Any certain glue that is recommended?
  • Give me a call and I will direct you to resources and share some additional tips.

Love the idea about the paintable wallpaper -- but how do you get it to adhere to a ceiling? Wouldn't the weight of it cause it to immediately fall down?
