Old to New : Sand, Sand and More Sanding

This China Cabinet sure needed some TLC. I have had this piece since 1975 and it looked wonderful but the years had taken a toll. Decided that being newly retired it was time to bring it back to glory
I started right in and then thought I should take some before pics. Sure was in rough shape wasn't it?
The old finish was cracking and very, very dry so although it was easy to scrape and sand it did take many hours to reveal the wood. I decided not to use stripper as I was working in my dinning room. One of the legs had broken pieces on the ball and I had saved the pieces, hubby did a wonderful job of fixing and you can't tell it was broken at all.
I primed the inside and the inside of the drawer white and then painted with a semi-gloss white kitchen/bath grade paint. I removed all the hardware and cleaned and polished with Brasso (a brass/silver polish). Love how you can now see my china and glassware!! It was so dark before you couldn't even tell that anything was in there! I am absolutely thrilled with my first attempt at bringing new life to an old grand piece
Enjoyed the project?

Joyce Hochsprung on Jan 20, 2016This is a gorgeous piece, you did a great job on the refinish. Love the white on the inside but SO happy you didn't paint the outside.
