Hanging Storage Shelf

I feel like I am constantly focusing my efforts on improving my home and creating pretty storage solutions, you know, to hide the clutter, but add character to my home at the same time. With eight people, a very small hall closet, and no mudroom area, it was time to create a small entry solution.
I found some scrap wood I had collected for free off of Craig's list and set to work. The result was just what I wanted, a pretty shelf to display decor, with storage for bills and such, and a place to hang things. I love how it turned out!

I was inspired with my design by a Pottery Barn shelf, except mine didn't come with a huge price tag!

Here are the random scraps of wood I used to build the shelf.

I used a Jig saw to cut out the sides. To make it quick and easy, I did both at the same time. Then I used some serious arm muscles to sand the paint off so I could satin! Phew!

After drilling some pocket holes for attaching the shelf together, it was a pretty quick and easy build.

In some spots I used 2 inch finish nails, but screws would work as well!

I couldn't be happier with it, and it keeps things neat, pretty, and organized...just what I wanted! For more details and free building plans please click the link to my blog below, and you can make your own!
