  • Can you really kill these with above recipe 1

Gardening: Does this work

Can you really kill weeds with this recipe:

Dandelion Season ==>> NON-toxic Weed Killer Recipe ==>> Good to use in yards with Pets & Children roaming around!

Make sure to share this on your own page for future reference and to help inform and protect others. =^..^=

1/2 gallon of Apple Cider Vinegar

1/4 c table salt ...»

1/2 tsp Dawn liquid dish soap

Mix above ingredients in a spray bottle.

Spray weeds thoroughly.

1/2 gallon for around $6.40

Works better than Round Up - kills weeds on 1st application.

The Dawn dish soap strips the weed of its protective oils so the vinegar can work with deadly force. Safe for use in yards used by children and pets!!

I would not take the time to put anything on Dandelions. Get yourself a good old fashion weed ...»
puller. Grandpa's Weeder. The kind you step on. Everyone use to have one when I was a kid... Kind of hard to find now. I got a new one last week at True Value. No mess, no chemicals gone in 2 seconds. And if you have a mouthy teenager.... great punishment aid.

Gardening: Keep the Hostas for Me, Not Dinner for the Deer.

Gardening: Did I just weed around weeds?

Anyone know what these light green plants are? They just showed up. The long leafed plants are Naked Ladies. I don't want anything choking out my ladies.

Pet smells are hard to get out. It might not be the carpet, my guess would be the pad under ...»
the carpet. I have had good luck with a product called Spot Out. I found it in the pet department at Walmart. But if it's in the padding I am not sure you will ever be able to get the smell out.

Gardening: Moving a Rose Bush

I need to move a rose that is in the shade. It's pretty tall but not in good shape. Should I cut it back before I move it? Does it matter what time a year I move it if it's not doing ...»
well? I think the only reason it is not doing well is it is not getting enough sun.

Gardening: Should the Pink Tulips stay or Go?

I had planned that those pink tulips were supposed to show halfway through the Daffodils and the start of the grape hyacinths... but timing can be tough when you buy bulbs that just say 'early', lol...

SO... should they be clipped and stuffed into a vases to be enjoyed indoors... or should I leave them alone?

Cleaning & Organization: Stains In bathtub

I purchased a house owned by a very elderly couple. They had a rubber mat in the bathtub with holes in it . They apparently could not clean very well. The stains where the holes were I can never remove no matter what I use. Can you help?

I had the same problem with my tub, but add black marks from a shower chair. We did a couple ...»
things. Krud Kutter took off most of the stains and marks. Then we soaked the tub in a bleach/ water bath, then scrubbed with a non abrasive cleaning... I think Mr. bubbles, can't remember for sure. There was a few faint stains left. But they soon vanished after normally weekly cleaning in about a month. My tub is cast iron, so keep in mind if yours is too, you don't want to do anything to remove the finish.

  • Shoot, this doesn't look too bad... let's just spray some more cellulose in there & well be good, right? Well maybe not so fast
  • Eek, guess we might have a few other things to fix & so glad I put that respirator on (If you do have mouse or other droppings, the old insulation needs to be removed) 1
  • Guess what happens if you pay someone to add more insulation & they come across an area like this 1
  • Ahhh the sins one can hide under insulation
  • Three guesses where the mice were coming up... in order to close these areas up you can use plywood, drywall or foam board – in this case we were redoing the bathrooms & eliminated the chase all together
  • Ready to go – fans now vented outside, all air leakage paths foamed or caulked & electrical junction boxes flagged in case one needs to find them later

Air Seal your attic before insulating

When one pops there head into the attic they may see something similar to the first picture & think that hey, I need some more insulation. I have lost count of how many people have simply ...»
seen something on TV or had an "energy audit" done where they recommended more insulation & I get called in later as they are still uncomfortable or having issues.

While I agree that the attic below definitely needs more insulation, there were a few things that need to be dealt with first. You see in order for insulation to work optimally it needs to be enclosed on all six sides which needless to say, doesn't fly when it comes to an attic. That is one reason why the R-Values are nearly doubled or tripled in the attic area when compared to walls. So what happens when you add air-leakage underneath – well it really cuts down on its performance.

While we had to remove the insulation in this area of the house,that is not always the case. If you don't have issues with mice, etc... you can simply move it out of the way & fix the problem areas. Some of the most common spots are;

· Wire & plumbing penetrations – use appropriate foam or caulk

· Drywall edges – foam or caulk

· Chases & soffits – foam board, drywall, or plywood to cap

· Around electrical boxes & exhaust fans - foam or caulk

· Stoves & furnace vents – this is a big "it depends" & sometimes is best left to a professional (especially for fireplaces), but fire rated caulk / foam & Roxul are commonly used

· Recessed lights – is it IC rated or Non-IC rated (http://blog.sls-construction.com/2011/rip-recessed-light)

Is that the end... no as this attic had 2 bathroom vents that simply dumped their moisture in the attic, baffles that were non-existent and a few other items. Alas those are special issues that easily take up a full piece themselves.

that person that thought you just blew more insulation in there and call it good. I know I don't have critter problems but I wont be surprised if there are wiring issues. My biggest fear is that what little insulation that is up there is asbestos.

Repurposing & Upcycling: An Old spitoon.

I found a very old hammered solid brass spitoon today at Humane Society thrift shop. I certainly dont want to turn it into a planter. Its about a two gallon size and very cool. Id love some ideas or thoughts on what I might use it for.
