How to Tell if You're Using Too Much Laundry Detergent

by Angela
When it comes to laundry soap, more does not equal better. In fact, using too much detergent can damage your machine.
To check:
*Run a cycle with no soap
*Allow washer to fill and agitate
*Open washer door and check for suds
If there are lots of suds, you're using too much soap. Add some 1 C vinegar to the drum and finish the cycle. Repeat as needed.
Open the door during the "Add a Garment" part of the cycle
There should be no suds. During a regular wash there should be little to no suds. HE soap is low sudsing.

My children bought me a washer & dryer - Whirlpool. The problem with checking for suds in the washer is that this washer lid locks shut - I wouldn't do anything to harm that. Will just using the suggested amount of detergent be ok? I use either Tide or Arm & Hammer detergents. Also, after a couple of times cleaning out the goopy film left in the softener dispenser, I seldom use liquid softener now unless I put it in a Downey dispensing ball.

My brother-in-Law works for P&G [Proctor & Gamble], and he always said if your using Tide, never fill to the line, Tide is a very consecrated detergent. I use about 5-6 tablespoons and it's plenty sudsy and it lasts a lot longer. Think this can go for most detergents........
