Refinishing bathroom wall tiles

I have a boring white bathroom. I want to paint/glaze the basic oak vanity and medicine cabinet. My main issue is a row of accent tiles that is just not my taste. I can't remove and replace them. How can I change the tiles? I will add color with towels, curtains. It's a small bath in a house that we want to sell. Thanks in advance for all the help and ideas.....Karen

Karen your bathroom isn't boring it's a perfect blank canvas! I agree with freshening the woodwork on the vanity and cabinet. Maybe a fresh coat of paint in a warmer tone, traditional patterned shower curtain and plush towels and possibly a rug to warm the look of the tile floor. Think relaxing spa-style...everyone will be impressed. As far as the tile border, if you're selling the home, I would let the new owner decide. If your realtor insists on a cosmetic change, tile can be painted. Ask the specialist in your local paint store for a recommendation for the correct paint (depending on if they are plastic or ceramic tiles). Good Luck!

Honestly if you are selling , everyone has different taste. My suggestion is ti just brighten up with a fresh coat of paint and if you feel necessary paint or stain your existing fixtures, A simple inexpensive idea is also change out the obvious pictures ,accessories, towels and rugs.

Many, many companies sell tile decals. They are easy to apply AND remove. Just google it. I'm sure you will find something just right. I think I'd make sure they are opaque. Also, you could pick out a simple pattern or color and carefully cut into strips that just cover the design on the tile. I'm with you...those tiles are pretty bad! LOL

Thanks that was the first thing I thought of doing but the border goes all through the shower too and I have not found anything waterproof....but I will keep looking

The Home Depot sells stainless stick-on tiles. They are very thin, just a facade really and are maybe 1/4 inch thick. They are okay to use around water. We have had them in our kitchen for over a year now, even around the sink area and they are really stuck on. Since they are stainless steel they will go with about anything else you do and you wouldn't need to many of them since you would just be doing one line basically to cover up what's existing. I think if you did that and threw a fresh coat of paint on your vanity, add a nice fluffy towel set, and cozy rug and maybe a new shower curtain, your bath will be beautifully staged! Good luck!

If you're planning to sell, don't worry about "your" style. As someone else said, you never know what style others will like. I'd paint the vanity white...no glaze. Remove the old-style medicine cabinet and put up a prettier mirror. Any home goods stores will have many to choose from. Take measurements first so you know what size to buy. (I'd mount it a little lower too. The current one is rather high up.) There is paint that'll cover over tiles. It's an epoxy so it'll be rather stinky...but it will cover the decorative tiles. Still, if I knew I was going to sell, I'd work with those tiles by using the colors in accessories (i.e. towels, artwork, rug) pulled from the tiles. If you decide to add a shower curtain, push it open. With it open the room will look larger :-) (But actually for selling purposes, you might not want to get one anyway. The buyers will probably want to add their own style.)
