Hi Kathy Did you try to contact the manufacturer? I had a similar situation where I wanted to replace and update a brass surround. It proved impossible for my particular fireplace. There are companies online where you can order replacement-updated magnetic door frames and insert opening coverings. Google magnetic fireplace door and you should be able to find something. We decided to update from wood to gas. Best makeover we ever did!

That was my issue as well plus it was a funky opening size. It was most cost effect in the long run to convert to gas and be able to get a new look that we loved instead of a fix that was just ok. Check with your gas company and see if they have a rebate for converting from wood.

I trust you all ready talked to local fireplace suppliers in your area (if not try them) but if all else fails; talk to a steel fabricator in your area about making frames that you could add either small wire mesh or glass to (talk to glass shop about right kind of glass needed) and be sure to use wood handles that don't transfer heat. The only other thoughts I have are the screen type units you set in front of the opening (home depot has a decent selection or google fireplace screen) or the older style wire mesh "curtains" that you can install that pull from each side in front of the opening (try plow & hearth.com).

Try Woodland Direct 800-919-1904. We have a Heatilator gas fireplace and were able to get a great set of replacement doors
