A 90's Breakfast Area Brought Into The New Millennium

When we purchased our new-to-us home, we were faced with a drab and rather unexciting breakfast area. So, I took the area out of the 90's and brought it into this millennium with a total makeover!
BEFORE This a shot of the area the day that we looked at the house - filled with the previous owner's furnishings. The room wasn't exactly ugly, but it wasn't exactly a space that invited you to spend a lot of time in either.
AFTER Now the area is cozy and inviting! The breakfast area is located at one end of our kitchen. As part of the total kitchen remodel, we replaced the vinyl floor with hardwoods, replaced the light fixture and painted the room.
The room is filled with several diy projects - repurposing an old large piece of art, a makeover for the end chairs, cheater bay window drapery hardware and the addition of rustic/industrial shelves above the sideboard. You can read all about what I did and find the tutorials on the blog.
The shelves are a favorite of mine. Galvanized plumbing parts make awesome industrial looking shelf brackets and are so, so easy to do. The sideboard is actually a dresser that I found at a thrift store. It's perfect for storing all of my kitchen linens, napkins, aprons, placemats, tablecloths and tablescape accessories.

Hi, incredible job, a really lovely room! I'm doing a project of my own that involves floating shelves and I love the brackets you used. I see that you mention galvanized plumbing fixtures but can you tell me just which fixtures I would look for to re-create your look? Thanks, Beth
