Dining Room Update - Painting Dining Table & Chairs

Now that January is in full swing, it's time to get back into blogging and furniture makeovers. You know what they say, "New year, new furniture!" Is that what they say? Or is that just what I say?! Either way, new furniture has made its way into our home!
You may have noticed it's been awhile since I've given any condo updates. (In case you missed them, you can check out the kitchen and bathroom here.) I haven't given any updates primarily because these past several months the condo has been neglected and was in bad need of some love. I decided it was time to turn my attention to the dining room. I'll be the first to admit, the dining room table we had been using was a bit of an eye sore. We never really cared for it, even when we purchased it. However, it happened to fit the space and our budget at the time...just not our style. Even after giving it a paint job awhile back, it just looked blah and bulky, and as our style continually evolved, the table fit the space less and less. I finally reached my breaking point and decided it was time to bid the table farewell.

Awhile back I snagged a full Drexel dining set at an auction. I have slowly been selling (and keeping) various pieces of it. I sold the four side chairs last Summer. The lady who purchased them refinished them in black for her dining room. She sent me pictures of the finished product (which turned out beautifully) and ever since then I've been wanting to incorporate black into my dining room. I finally was down to just the table and two arm chairs. I didn't see this combination being a hot item in terms of sales. I decided it only seemed appropriate that I take matters into my own hands and give these guys a new home.

In addition to painting the set, the chairs also needed to be reupholstered. I found some great fabric at Jo-Ann Fabrics that provided a neutral pallet, yet added some interest with the texture.

For the table and chairs, I went with General Finishes Lamp Black Milk Paint. It's such a rich color and provides just enough sheen to give the pieces an elegant finish. Here is how the table turned out.

I know what you're thinking, arm chairs belong at the head of the table! I know! However, because they have such a low back compared to the other two chairs, it looked silly if the positions were flipped. Don't worry, I tried.

Although the new table is much darker, it's sleek silhouette really opens up the room and gives the area a more spacious feel.

The dark shade also gives the room a more elegant feel.

I love the way the black creates a dramatic backdrop for the centerpiece. It really allows the silver from the bowl and candlesticks to make a statement.

Here's a peak into our living room, which actually flows directly into the dining room. I incorporated some black accent pieces to help the color scheme flow throughout the entire space. It looks much more cohesive now and feels like one unit.

I want the top of mine to be chalkboard paint. The rest matte black What do u think?

Great!!! Would have continued in the living room with trying a black lamp shade....would'nt hurt to try it!!!😊😊
