Hi all! This is my first post here on hometalk, but I'm sure I'll be a regular around these parts!

I love to repurpose found items. I made this adorable plate rack out of a "curbed" crib and some discarded trim pieces.

I decided not to put a back on this piece so that the wall color will show through.

I started with this old piece of a crib.

I removed some of the spindles and built a simple box around it.

I added a few shelves, then some curbed trim was added to dress it up.

A little molding on the bottom of each shelf will keep plates from sliding off.

I call it curb shopping. It's not so great here in NJ we don't have regular bulk pick up days but when I lived in VA curb shopping was awesome.

lol..I love it!!! Curb shopping!! Well come to Indiana Girl and I will show you around on Bulk day! It is beter hen "pickin" like on the shows!! I grew up in NY ( upstate) and my mom loves to "curb shop" but they have rules now ( and my Dad hates it so he won't stop most times if there is anything good). Where do you find your "goodies"? I follow your blog and see all the great things you make/repurpose!!!

I love curb shopping! Not available right in my area, I have to travel to the metro area where they have the bulk pick up days. However, once you start collecting junk, friends, family, neighbors will "donate" to your cause! :)

This is absolutely amazing! I'm definitely inspired. My neighbor and I are embarking on a project to turn a curb-side wooden palette into a coffee table. We'll definitely be posting the process. :)

    Hello Gail,

I am also fairly new to this forum also. I think the plate rack is great. I did not know if you have worked with milk paint before. I would think it would be perfect with type of work. You can do a lot of diffrent looks with milk paint. Good luck on your next project.

Lately, I've seen many ideas on repurposing cribs. Why is this happening after all the cribs at my house were discarded due to new safety standards? Love it!
