I haven't done counter tops, but have done it for other things, I've torn my paper in, make sure you leave some of them with the straight edges, and separate the 2 groups. a bowl of water nearby, wet paper, crumple it and squeeze excess water out, the crumpling give it a nice effect

@Guy Bremerkamp I just put in water, don't need to soak it, just dip it in, it absorbs the water quickly. I also have a dish towel or paper towels near the bowl to sop up excess water too, if it is too wet, it will tear as you are smoothing it out, you don't want it dripping, it IS messy, so keep a wet towel near you to wipe off your gluey fingers,lol....once you lay the paper down & smooth it out, go over it with a coat of glue, let dry and add another coat, let dry, add your glaze or stain, whatever you are using, let dry & a few coats of sealer (I like using mod podge gloss (the matte MP soaks the stain unevenly) and follow with several (3 to 4 coats) of polycrylic

Hello! The idea sounds like it would look beautiful as it has on the other projects I have seen, but I wonder how well it would stand up to cleaning because our kitchen counters get the most usage in the house. If you do try it please let us see the results and your experience keeping it clean. Thank you and good luck on the project.

Would this work for a kitchen backsplash?

I dont know why it wouldnt? As long as you seal the edges/corners really good and put about 10 coats of poly and steel wooling the whole thing in between coats

I haven't used torn, brown paper bags on countertops but I have on other items. It's gorgeous!!! Someone posted pictures after doing her floors. I, too am considering it for my bathroom countertop. I've re-painted, marbleized my kitchen counters twice. I'm sure it would work, but be sure and protect the top with about 7 coats of a marine grade polyurethane. I went over my first cabinet refinish after about 3 years because the gloss wore off. Good luck! Be sure and post the results!
