  • I have two daughters, 18 and 15. My girls did their rooms and picked out wild colors that I think look terrible, but they love it. What I did was add mirrors and cool lighting and made them a vanity area. they love it.

At 15, maybe Bulleye Properties comment is right on, let her choose her own colors. It will be fun, an opportunity to show you trust her, and it maybe awful but she can't complain because she owns it. Perhaps there will be fewer weird posters on the wall if she chooses the decor.

Oh No ! I did a job for a lady that let her daughter pick the colors!!!! Bad move 7 colors in one room. But Jame's is right when it was done she hated it and I got paid to do it twice. lol loved it.

The trick is to ask for color suggestions...then work with them to pick one that is great for everybody

I like the idea of letting her choose the colors Bullseye : ) It's probably best to take home a few samples to test, as we want to be sure she likes the look before fully committing. Another idea might be to tape off and create patterns with painters tape after laying your base coat colors, or cutting out stencil patterns printed off the internet. Encourage her to get creative- it'll be a fun experience for you both, she'll feel empowered in designing her own space, and you'll be sure to receive extra cool points!

Perhaps, a trip to the home store to learn about and compare color matches would be in order before letting the 15-year old go wild.

My daughters want to have a "mermaid" theme...at 11 and 12 they are big fans of the H20 mermaid series. we might use a wall sized mural of an underwater scene.
