You could mogpog (not sure how that is spelled) decorative wallpaper on back and purchase cute storage boxes from Hobby Lobby. Just and idea.mif you want to change the color of the piece you could chalk paint it.

Most craft stores are offering cute storage in all bright colors now at a discount such as Michaels.I would purchase all different size organizers.

Paint the cubbyholes bright colors but leave the outside a light color. Too much dark furniture in a room is not cheerful. The storage boxes are a great idea but if you paint the cubbyholes bright colors then keep the boxes all the same color. If you think the bright cubbyholes are too bright then a more subtle color of boxes will hide some of the color and you get just a peek of the bright colors. Boxes with metal labels help with finding what is inside. remember to add some interesting shaped decorative items also at intervals. In decorating you are either a symmetrical person or an asymmetrical person. That will play a role in where you place your decorative items but always look for balance.

You can also use wallpaper or contact paper in the cubby holes,.Something bright. I like the idea of cork board to pin items. Use painted jars to hold pencil, scissors, etc.

Yes to all the above. But also, take EVERYTHING off the shelves and organizing by type and use. Cute containers would make it look so much neater. You have little bits everywhere and nothing makes sense. The containers would make such a differ. You could also stick contac paper to your cork board or even paint the cork board. Hope we've all helped.

Start by sorting everything off the top the of the desk and the shelves. Mount a reusable or paint a calander to the desk top. Mount pegboard and cork board on the back of the desk area. Buy matching various size bins for the shelves and cubbies and a mail sorter and a pencil cup. Add a few family pictures in some of the space/cubbies. Take the stuff off the top of the desk. Last but not least, put a hook under or on the side of the desk for your purse. If you clean up and put away stuff from the top of your des every time you use it, you will want to use it more.

First take out all the things and clean the place, sort it according to need and throw away all that is not needed. Now easy to place in markers or containers according to the earlier sorting done.

Great idea, Carol, to put a hook for her purse under the desk! I agree with everybody that there is too much on the desk that doesn't really belong there. You might buy some 12 x 12 sheets of scrapbooking paper (Michaels, Joannes, Hobby Lobby) and cut them to fit the back of each of the cubbies like wallpaper (use the same paper for each cubby to calm things down a bit). Measure your cubbies and then go look for bins, baskets or boxes that will fit and buy matching ones. Only keep absolute necessities on the desktop so you have room to use the desk. Keep a few decorative items on the shelves, like photos, but don't overdo it. Put up a bulletin board (you can paint it to match your desk) and put up cards, invitations, a calendar, etc. on that instead of displaying cards on the desk. Or, you might consider putting a plexiglass or glass topper on the desk surface and put a monthly calendar, pics, important addresses, special cards, etc. under that to display them and keep them clean and handy but out of the way.

To me the main trick of organizing something is having a place for everything and getting rid of things you don't use. You have nice compartments on here that you could get some cute little wicker containers for storage. They are functional and pretty. You could also remove that light fixture and get a couple of puck lights that mount to the bottom of the shelf. You can use pretty glass jars or small glass candle holders to hold pens, pencils, scissors, etc. The more you tie all your storage container looks together, the neater and more put-together the finished product will be. You can also add cork board to the side of your upper cabinet or a dry erase board or chalkboard. Try and get the stuff that is down on your work space put away in the upper compartments. Keeping your work space clear will help you feel much more organized and there is no greater feeling than knowing where something is when you want it! Good luck! :)
