Garage Door Recommendations

It's been awhile since we have done a project that included a new garage door! An AK in-law needs to replace a 30-Year-Old DOUBLE garage door in Roswell, Georgia. What recommendations do the Hometalkers have for products and vendors?

When we lived in Albuquerque, NM in 2005, we moved into a 35 year old house, one owner, then we bought it and flipped it. The old couple who lived there had an attempted break hoping to get their automotive tools that they somehow knew was stored there. Long story short, the attempted invaders messed up the huge and wide (and heavy) garage door along the bottom section... looked terrible. I called a guy who knew a guy that worked for the Overhead Door Company. They were able to find a replacement bottom section to this 35 year old garage door! Can you imagine that... thirty five years later. Looked great when the guy finally got it in and installed.

A lot of double wides are often done in lighter weight fiberglass...as compared to the heavy solid wood version...future maintenance will also steer some folks. http://www.networx.com/article/keep-your-new-garage-door-looking-and-ac

I had a new door installed by Overhead Door. It is of aluminum with foam backing for insulation. Being a garage, the insulation helps a little, but I don't think it was worth the extra $$
