How to Build a Chalkboard

Make your own chalkboard using fiberboard and crown moulding for a stylish and functional way to dress up your walls!
The hubs and I snuck in one last DIY before 2015 ended—a giant chalkboard for our kitchen wall. It's the perfect spot for a fun artsy message, and is also doubling as a menu-planner for us, which so far, is working out really well. I love it when items can be fun and functional :)

Here's what you’ll need to build your own chalkboard:

1/8″ fiberboard

chalkboard paint

crown moulding

1.5″x0.75″ piece of wood (to make ledge for bottom)

1/2″ round or similar piece (to make ledge for bottom)

keyhole hangers

3M picture hanging strip

The step-by-step is relatively simple: paint fiberboard with chalkboard paint; frame with moulding and then decide how you want to hang your chalkboard and attach the necessary accessories (we went with keyhole hangers for this one).
Chalkboards are so versatile also make it really easy to add some seasonal style to your home. I loved this chalk art I created for our Christmas celebrations:
