I have 3 large windows with vertical blinds. They are a dingy color. They're not metal or plastic like material but they have a fabric feel to them.

It's easy to remove the fins off most vertical blinds, once you're done with that it's easy to paint them. Mix textile medium with an acrylic paint color of your choice using the directions on the textile medium bottle, then paint like you would paint anything else. I prefer using a bristle brush, not foam, but that's just me. Dry for a good solid 24 hours, flip, then do the other side. Let dry another 24 hours then you should be able to hang them back up.

Try removing a slat and vacuuming it or use a coarse lint brush. The dingy look may just be imbedded dust. You can also try to lightly spot wash with warm water/vinegar solution and see if that brightens the appearance.

In the past.... to save my clients some money, I have painted their vertical blinds with the leftover paint from their walls so as to blend in with their wall & make them almost invisible when shut.... however I didn't use any textile medium in the paint, but it may would make the surface of the blinds a bit softer to the touch, but I don't have anyone touching my blinds anyway, so I say.... plain old paint is good enough for me..... by the way... its really a fun project....instant gratification.

Painting verticals is easy... snap out slats and lay flat...use one of the small foam rollers and let dry. Would NOT suggest a high shine paint... keep it to eggshell and you can even use the same paint used on your walls.
