Got a Mirror? and Some Frames? Look What You Can Make!

The Bird's Nest

I don't get rid of anything. I just wait until my collection gets out of hand, then my creative juices start to flow...
First decide whether you want your mirror in the front or back, this will dictate the size you need. You can use wood, plastic or metal because you are painting them.
Next pick out your frames. Look for detail and different shapes, again they can be wood, plastic or metal because you are painting them.
I tried to use at least one really detailed piece, this just adds interest to your art. Clean well with a 50/50 water & vinegar mix.
Now pick your paint. I use Kristi Kuehl Pure Home Paint & Finishes. This a Chalk-Acrylic, VOC Free, Non-toxic paint that is so user friendly and cleans up with soap and water.
Sorry I don't have any during pictures, but I will give you step by step while you look at the finished project.
First I laid all the different shapes and sizes on top of each other to see how they fit together, Once I got the look I wanted I started painting each piece.
If you are putting your mirror to the back, remember to paint all sides of your frame, it will reflect in the mirror. (I learned this the hard way)
after painting I chose to put a Glaze on some and others I used a Matte finish. This is all up to the look your going for/
Now after everything is dry, it is time to assemble.

starting with the back piece, lay the next frame on top and attach with E6000.
As you can see I did different angles and only put E6000 where the pieces met.
You can add as many levels as you want, just remember don't make it too heavy.
Let your piece dry overnight before you hang.
This is a great DIY project to add a pop of color and style to a dead spot. You can make it as big or as small. Give it a try!

Love, love, love this idea. I have more than enough frames, just have to find a cheap mirror at a yard sale.
