A House Flip of a Hoarder - Before and After

Looking at a home from the outside can be very deceiving – just like the outside of a person often doesn't reveal what is inside of their heart. Join me for a look at a hoarder disorder as seen through the eyes of their family.
Today I show you the "before pictures" and then the home after most of the reno is done. I did not take the pictures, but they are authentic. This was the former home of my son-in-law's parents.
We all have issues and at times falter, so don't judge too harshly. As we like to say, "But for the grace of God, there go I." It can be a hard thing, growing older. You find yourself slowing down, unable to do the things of those around you. Depression and illness can change a person's perspective and disrupt life.
Much of what had been considered collectables and "good deals" by the former home owners ended up in a dumpster simply out of necessity.

After everything was cleared out, the family sold the home at a great loss to someone who could flip the house to make a profit.
To sift through thousands of items in order to decide what to keep and what to toss would have been impossible for the family. If they had, who would have the time to sell it or even figure out who to give it to?
But alas, there is hope. The new owners did an amazing job of flipping this house. They tore out the entire kitchen and put in custom-built cupboards, extending the kitchen out to make it bigger than the previous one.
It is amazing how they were able to turn heartache into victory - to make a tragic home into a thing of beauty.
Today the beautiful outside reflects the beautiful inside of the home.

We lost my Mom in september 2009 and my sister in October of the same year. I had to clean out a house of 9 peoples stuff of 50 years. It wasn't as bad as your in laws house but it was full. Also my sister was a shopaholic. So the entire living room was filled with brand new Stuff from HSN and QVC. I couldn't just donate all that. I mean like $40,000 worth. So my husband and i had thirteen yeards sales. _e finally finished cleaning it out with the help of my 2 brothers. Then i sold it to a rehaber also. I took such a loss on what it was worth but in the condition it was in i didnt have the money to do it. They did an awesome job. So i feel your pain.
    • @Patrick Mcloone It is amazing what we can accumulate over the years. We raised 15 kids and just after the last few all moved out, we moved to another state. I hadn't downsized yet because there was such a short time between when they left and when we had to have the house "show perfect" to sell. I've taken about 4 years to do the downsizing after our move - such a job! So sorry you had to go through that. My mom moved in with us and just passed away a year ago - that was another big task going through all her stuff!

@Val Frania {Love My DIY Home} I'm a shopper and love to collect things, then I get into a cleaning mode and want to donate a lot that I've collected. For me, I enjoy the thrill of the hunt, the collecting, and then letting go. It's a cycle. Refresh & Renew & Redo ! Peace be with you.
