Lighting is one thing that can be easily switched out to bring personality and character to your builder-grade house. When we built out house last year, we got the standard lighting package, knowing we could switch out whichever lights we wanted to later on.
Our kitchen has come a long way since last year. We added window trim and sills, a marble tile backsplash, and replaced the island pendants. We found the pendants at Lowes for about $40 each. They are the perfect industrial style we wanted to complete the space.
Here is the before, the boring builder-grade pendant. We turned off the power and removed the light fixture.
Three wires come from each fixture, a ground, a black, and a white. And these same wires come out of the ceiling to match. Strip off a little plastic so the metal can conduct with each other and then twist the right colors together in the same direction. Cover the ends with a screw-on cap.
We tested the light and then turned the power back off. We shoved all the wires back inside the cup and then screwed the new fixture in. For more details and instructions, see my blog post all about it!
