I am looking for a way to clean my basement drop ceiling tiles of water marks. Any ideas other than calling professionals? Thanks.

Try making a mixture of baking soda and white vinegar in a paste.Rub on the tiles and leave on long enough for it to penetrate. Wipe off and clean with warm water and a mild soap mixture.

Hi Marilyn If the ceiling tiles are stained from previous water leaks, I would be certain those leaks have been addressed. Just as water leaking can damage the tiles, they are most likely porous enough to still absorb moisture. Be cautious using cleaners that could possibly soak into the tiles. If you can't remove stains with a light scrubbing (minimal amount of water, vinegar, etc) you can paint and seal them with a Kilz waterproofing product. Double check with the pros in your local paint shop...they will be able to point you toward the best product. If you can't remove the stains, you may be able to get some tiles and replace those that are in poor shape.

Take them down, spray with Kilz (cover the stain marks for good), then spray paint white or cream (?) to match your scheme. This is a good time to spray the framing tracks as well if they are rusty or you want to change the color to match or contrast with the tiles.

cpotts225 has the right answer. Barbara has the right advice. Use the Kilz outside - ask me how I know :)

I bet a cloth with Hydrogen Peroxide will fix this,

On the Kilz, get low odor, that way it is not so toxic, but still keep the windows or door open, and a fan blowing
