I have always prefered chemical treatment to a bait system. Bait attracts the termites to it in order to kill them. I would just rather kill them to start with.
Chemical termiticide is more effective in that you're essentially creating a barrier around your home. From what I've read, these treatments are far more effective than a bait system such a Sentricon.
It can't imagine that any self-respecting termite could not find its way thru the 10 foot spaces between the baits, so I chose the chemical barrier method. When my 20 years was up and I had to retreat my house to keep a termite bond in effect, I actually read the terms of my old bond and realized that my previous company would have only paid a maximum of $250 for termite damage to my hardwood. That is when I decided to shop around and find a new company with a more reasonable

replacement policy. So read the "bond policy" before you decide.
There are two main methods of termite control either a baiting system or a barrier treatment but before you deciide which way to go its critical to have a thorough inspection by a competent inspector that knows termites biology and home construction.
Then and only then can you determine the best way to treat your structure. With proper treatment and thorough inspections you can and we do eliminate and control termites from homes and in the

ground nearby. The new materials are very effective and will dramatically reduce the pressure or amount of termites on your property.
In the old days all of our treatments were barrier treatments and were made with the plan of repelling termite colonies. Then in 1986 they took Chlorodane off the market from then until 2001 it was almost impossible to control termites with the chemicals available ( Dursban TC /Premise /Dragnet / Demon / and so on.) for several years we really struggled to control termites.
In 1996 they released Sentricon which is a termite baiting system It is a very effective treatment method but it can be expensive especially the long term monitoring program needed to maintain the system. In 2004 they released the Advance Baiting system which is also a very effective method both of these products are called growth regulators which stop the termites abiltity to molt and are actually passed through
the colony. From one termite to another,. I am sorry to say that homeowners are misinformed about how baits work they do not sterilize they are a Kytin inhibitor which in laymans terms it affects the way termites grow. Termites grow by shedding their exoskeleton this is called molting. What makes their skin release is called a kytin and since the bait inhibits that they basically implode. They are not attracted by the (chemicals in the stations because here are none. Termites are blind and they are constantly foraging below ground for food. What attracts them is the temperature differential that is created by the structure/house anything that shades the ground or the stations that are placed. They find a food source ( Cellulose) they eat it and then they leave a pheremone to find their way back. Then they transport it and transfer it to the colony below. They replenish moisture and do it again 24 hours a day year round
In 2001 they released Termidor and the industry changed back again The barrier treatment is very a succesful method as long as you use Termidor the success rate is phenomenal. It is true that you need to remove conducive areas from around and in your home. If the house has wet areas the termites will make a satellite colony and not return to the soil. Now this is for Subteranean Termites and also Formosan. But as far as drywoods or dampwoods they are treated by fumigating the structure mainly which is a very extensive treatment method and is only in certain parts of the country.
There are two alternative treatments that can be used in conjuction with either treatment by uising a product called Boracare or Timbor which is a fungicide / insecticide applied to the bare wood. And Termite Gel baits or Sentricon above ground baits can be used to help. You need professional for this problem. You wouldn't do your own cancer treatment would you. Good luck and do your research I believe the house will determine the best treatment. ( construction type. problems termite pressure, moisture problems, accessability, soil type.Etc. Etc.Etc.
