Painting vinyl siding

Has anyone painted their vinyl sided home? I understand that Sherwin Williams makes a good paint for it. Was your paint job successful?

I always understood the reason for installing vinyl siding was because it didn't require maintenance or painting. I will follow this post as I'm interested in if others have done this and why, how, etc. thanks for bringing up this topic

I see! I've never experienced that so I wasn't thinking of that possibility.

My white siding had gotten dull so I had it painted a light taupe. It still looks great and this was done in 2010. Wish I had chose a darker color but the paint these painters used was from Home Depot. If I had it to go over with I would do it again. BTW my house was 16yrs old at the time. Over time it looses it's shine. It still cleaned up good but over the years it gets dull.

It's a good thing you kept it lighter @Felicia Harcrow, because you can't paint a dark colour over a light coloured siding...it causes it to warp. Apparently it is really bad on vinyl. I painted a medium dark tone over a lighter tone pressboard type, and it did warp a bit. I think there is a whole article on that topic on the BM website. I can't remember if it is there that I saw to stay within 2 shades of the original colour. '' Chalking '' (white residue) is more evident on a darker shade as well.
