Safe paint for painting a crib?

Hi Hometalkers! I have a question for the painters out there. I am soon-to-be a grandmother for the very first time (sooooo excited!). Since I am going to be helping out with the day-care, I decided to convert my daughter's old bedroom into a nursery, but on a budget. I found an amazing iron changing table on Craigslist and I am trying to find a crib that matches. If not, I will need to paint the one we already have to match. So, my question is: what type of paint is safe to paint a crib (knowing that there may be some teething involved at some point?) I know there are toxins in most paints, so I am wondering if someone has the inside scoop on what manufacturer's use to paint their baby furniture?

I would recommend you look into Fusion Mineral Paints. No lead, no VOCs. An excellent product with a decent colour line and fabulous coverage.

If you haven't done so already, I would also look into your crib. I know that some have been recalled, even under 20 years old, and are no longer deemed safe, due to the board under the mattress, amongst other things.

The only paint that I know of that is 100% safe for cribs is Lullaby Paint. I work for a Chalk Paint company and this is the brand we recommend.

I too am getting ready for a new grandchild and I am looking at painting a crib. Important as well the rails on old cribs need to be adjusted so that they do not come down when child is leaning over them, my husband placed screws so the they do not come down. The info for the paint has helped me as well. Thank you
