I heard of those who live around us...they use boiling water to pour in the holes. Just be prepared for them to rush out of the hole. I am not aware of anything that you can spray over your whole yard. I would think you would have to deal with each mound. I know this is going to be a big undertaking especially since they keep creating a new mound.

We had some experience with these years and years ago...and these creatures can be terrifying! I think I would call an exterminator. There are just some things that are dangerous to deal with and fire ants is one of them! And you mightl have to contain your animals while you are working on this problem. You have to get down to the nest to be effective.

@Cheryl G we haven't had experience with fire ants in this area, that I know of, but ants are a problem. We were infiltrated with them a couple of years ago. I sprayed the mounds with raid ant killer then followed up with their ant killer drops to keep them away. The drops lasted quite a while. Usually put the drops down monthly and haven't had a problem since. Even if you go the exterminator route I would recommend the drops as follow up prevention. There are many places to get stuff to control fire ants. I've used granules (very fine) that you sprinkle on and then water in. I've got some stuff from sevin that goes in the broadcast spreader, it's for fire ants, ticks. fleas, grubs etc. It goes on the entire lawn area and in beds etc.
