I have been told to spray 2x with lime sulfur, once in late Jan & again 2 weeks later. I was also told the 2nd application should be horticultural oil instead of lime sulfur. I am in zone 7B Willow Spring NC. I would appreciate any guidance you can provide. Thanks!

Teresa, before you spray, I recommend you read this info or other, great comments on explaining spraying, types of spray, etc. Scroll down to the section on spraying or read the whole article. I hope this helps. http://www.rosefile.com/RosePages/rcare.htm

Some very good advice in that article. When it comes to spraying I always recommend starting with the least toxic option.
  • I use a product that is organic and if used 4 times per year should keep your roses nice. Its" Organocide", it come in a concentrate and a ready to spray bottle, I have used it in my nursery for the majority of disease and insect control, as well as in my garden. You can find it in most nurseries and garden centers, if you can find it in a nursery (as much as I hate to send you to the big box store) you can get it at Home depot. Make sure to spray from the bottom, and if you have a bad problem use it two weeks a part for 3 applications.

The key is to never allow a disease like black spot to get ahead of you. If you see yellow spots on the leaves, the disease is already present and infecting more leaves. For a non-organic alternative, consider Bonide Infuse.
  • Will the blackspot become immune to the Organocide if you spray only with it?
