Adhering fossil rocks to a fireplace

I have a lot of rocks that my husband and I have collected from Lake Michigan and I'd like to use them around the fireplace in our house. What do I use to adhere them to the old tile, type of grout and how do I seal them? These rocks have some cool features, like fossils and there are a lot of Petosky as well and I'd like to highlight them.
