Should I match my cabinets in the kitchen to the wood tone?

I am removing a wall in my kitchen to add a bar area. Do I try to match the cabinets in the wood tone or do something else? It will be freestanding with a fridge built in. Has anyone just used a mini fridge or should I go with a beverage fridge? Thanks for help.

A bar area is an accent area. Play it up by painting your cabinets an accent color that you have somewhere else in your room. The one thing to keep in mind if you choose a mini fridge is that most of them have small freezers that need to be defrosted.

Matching cabinet wood tones would be tricky as the older your cabinets are the more their tone has probably changed over the years and thus make it even harder to match. I agree with the top answer, maybe try paint or a really different color wood tone? Unless you have a need for a freezer for making ice etc. going with a beverage fridge would give you more space in the refrigerating portion.
  • I would like to see pictures if you have them, but without the visual I agree with debi53. Cabinets in an accent color would be a nice idea. Also, you wouldn't want to try to match the wood and be off just a little.
