Side table make over saga

It has been months since I posted my question regarding the make over of my bedroom side table. With Christmas, working and having family stay, the project has been put on the back burner and, for a long time, the poor table sat on my balcony stripped and ready to be painted. FINALLY I got to it and finished the stripping. Painting began and then I couldn't find the handles I liked for the price I was willing to pay. I had to consider that the handles could not sit too high on the draw because there was only a minute space between the underside of the table and the draw front when lifted up and pushed under the table top. Then, I discovered that pushing the top of the draw with my fingers, the draw would slip up and under the top. Soooooo another idea came to me. Perhaps having a decorative panel in the center of the draw would look a bit cute as well.
As you can see in the photo, I have fulled in the holes (yes dark wood fuller, but it doesn't show once it is painted). Any ideas on what sort of decorative panel I could add here? Whew!
This is a long drawn out project but I am determined to finish it.
I would like to have a decorative panel in the center of the draw.

I'm sure we ALL have projects that have lingered on for far longer than we originally planned...but all progress is progress, amirite?? And how satisfying will it be when you finish it! :-) There are LOTS of decorative elements you could use on your drawer fronts (just Google "wood appliques" and click the shopping tab) - is there a particular style you're interested in?

@Thank You K Thank you for your encouragement :) I am not sure what style I would go with at this stage. I thought because the legs of the table are Queen Anne style it would best suit a center design that is curved and flowing.

Hi Bron don't feel bad I still have lingering xmas downstairs that needs to be put back in a closet. It must be the winter blahs as I can't seem to finish one project. Anyway for your project You can Decoupage the piece which would be very interesting. However I do not know your sense of style or where you plan on using the piece.

You could have a piece of mirror cut to fit the center panels.

Don't fret folks...I think many of us are caught up in the winter stoppage! It seems the freezing weather hit so soon and it is long lasting and brutal. Just staying warm presents a challenge! Good luck getting this going!

How about a fabric covered panel to go in the middle section with the knobs and leaving the outside drawer framed as you have it in white? Something similar to these pictures, just not covering the entire front side of the drawer? Make sense? It's way too early and I've not had coffee yet!

How about a pretty piece of tooled leather, maybe from an old hand bag. It could be painted to match the dresser.

@Ruth76114 what a good idea. I never would have thought of that. I work in an opp shop one day a week and get quite a few leather handbags so I will look out for one that fits. Thanks for that.

@Allinthefamilysingers thank you for all your ideas. I did think about a cane basket at one stage but I couldn't get the draw screws out. the draw is not really a draw it is a draw front that lifts up and folds under the top of the table. I might have another go :)
