Cloudy film on hardwood floor

A friend of mine has new-ish hardwood floors that she treated with Rejuvenate. She washed the floors with Lestoil and now the floors have turned cloudy. How can she restore the shine?

Lestoil? Was it the hardwood variety?

She should have just used the Rejuvenate. Tell her to spray the floor down with white vinegar and water to aid in the removal of the lestoil.

Hello Shari, Depending on the severity of the situation, she can first try a 4:1 mix of hot water to white vinegar and if that does not work, then she can graduate up to a 2:2 mix. If that does not work, then she will need to find a distributor that can order her a product called "Dissolver" by Basic Coatings. It is designed to remove most oil and acrylic finishes. Apply as directed and follow with their product "I.F.T." and "Squeaky". This will remedy her situation. If the shine does not completely return, she can always recoat with a reputable oil base or water base polyurethane with high solids to her desired sheen. Warranty is no longer an issue since she most likely voided it using the products you mentioned so recoating is an acceptable alternative. Please do not suggest to her to use any other types of oils or less expensive acrylic "rejuvenators". Using these will only build layer upon layer of the incorrect product with short lasting results as well as making it difficult to remove the cloudiness. The incorrect products will also make it near impossible to get adhesion if she does not use "Dissolver" or a similar product when the appropriate type of topcoat is applied if she decides to recoat the floors correctly. A universal dewaxed sealer applied after the treatment and before the final topcoat will also assist in adhesion if she decides to topcoat. I hope this helps.

Lestoil is one powerful cleaner. It probably took part of the finish off not to mention all the buildup on the floors. I had a bottle leak and it actually went right through years of white paint on the bottom of my cabinet. I'd try the above methods with the vinegar-I would not use more cleanser (like the Murphys). This is not going to be easy.

Murphy's oil soap is the worse cleaner to use in this situation. It will just add to the existing residue.Talk about an oily mess. It will just ad to the existing situation.

Might try the stuff called" No more bucket too." can get at Walmart. I used it and it helped but I had real wood floors with varnish on them. After many many years they needed to be cleaned I used this and the stuff that goes on afterwards., they look good as new now.But try in a corner first and see.Vinegar did nothing for mine at all to remove the film.
