I bought cheap Dollar store fencing and put them around my flower beds and garden. They stand about 18 in. high. It worked for me. Depends how big your dog is.

I have read that taking grocery store garlic cloves and breaking them up and burying them around the area will keep dogs away. The lady talking about it had trouble keeping dogs out of her yard and was tired of cleaning up after the neighborhood dogs. She said the garlic did not sprout, and the dogs then stayed away from her yard. If you tried it around your flower beds and flowers it should work.

@Nancy Goff-Waddell Sorry. I answered the question as if the dogs belonged to the person asking the question as she stated "your" not strays or other persons dogs. Again sorry if there was some confusion.

cayenne pepper...big costco size jar.....sprinkle around edges. Works on cats too. Only bad part is when it rains you must re-apply!

GO to your local pet supply house & ask for a can of DOG REPELLENT. It comes in a can like hair spray & you just spray it around the perimeter of the area you want them to stay out of. It's a mixture of different odors that dogs can't stand & they will avoid it. You will also have to respray after a rain & it's harmless to gardens unless sprayed directly onto the plants. You spray the ground just to form a barrier to the area you want them to avoid. I have used this before. Hope this helps. :)

I buy a cheap brand of Pepper and sprinkle in my porch flower pots and around plants in my flower bed. Have to reapply after a rain. Keeps dogs, cats and squirrels from digging in those areas.

Our dogs have their own yard. When they are with us in the other parts of our yard, we tell them to stay out of the plants. Unwanted roaming dogs can not get in front or back.
  • If they are your dogs, then you will want to garden with them in mind (I do and I have 2 dogs and 3 cats). With this in mind you make sure the dogs have an area where they can run and play and maybe use a small decorative fence to keep your garden protected. If it is other people's dogs, then I would definitely look for some repellent but please be careful of using anything with pepper in it which can harm a dog's nose. you could find some sort of pine cones or shells or something that hurts to walk on and use that as a deterrent. After 4 years I learned to work areas into my gardens so my dogs can run through. Sometimes a plant gets hurt and I shed a tear but plants grow back. good luck
