I need a pantry and my hubby is good with tools. I have a pretty large kitchen, but we don't know where to put it and where it looks best and most functional.

Hi! Can you add some photos so we can see what the kitchen looks like?

Always think as far away from the stove or oven as possible due to the heat factor. I am envious as to what you imagination can do with all the new slide outs they have made for this purpose

My parents had this dilemma many years ago in a huge kitchen. Being North facing (so never really getting much direct sunlight) and having two exterior walls, we decided that the best place was in the corner of the two exterior walls. I removed a small window and bricked it up. Instead of sealing the inside wall, I left vents to allow the pantry to 'breathe' (I made sure the door to the kitchen was able to seal out the cold air/draughts). This created a large, walk in pantry which was bone dry but always very cool in summer.

What are you looking to put in the pantry? (i.e., how deep does it need to be?)

I had my hubby (who's also my contractor) add a pantry to my kitchen.i was lucky that we had a small entry closet that butted up to the kitchen wall, so he closed the opening to the closet and built another opening that opened to the kitchen it was the perfect space, plenty of room and then he ordered a frosted glass door that said Pantry on it. he did a beautiful job and I love it. The pantry is located next to the fridge and across from the stove.

Corners are best if you have that option. My pantry has a heat issue because it back wall is exterior. We had trees there when we built but they've died due to oak wilt. I wish I had thought of that!

I imagine you'll use it for snack foods, so put it as close to the sofa as possible. Just kidding. Our pantry is far from the fridge and I find that very inconvenient when making cereal or gathering together baking ingredients.
