Bathroom lighting problem

We recently remodeled our master bath and replaced the huge wall mirror with two individual mirrored medicine cabinets which protrude about 5" from the wall. The top of the cabinet has crown molding which blocks some of the light from the light fixtures. Even if the molding were removed, the light would still be partially blocked. I love the fixtures and am looking for ideas on how to extend their coverage. I hope this makes sense! Thanks in advance for your help!

  • These type of lights were made for flat mirrors not wall cabinets. You could build a soffit above the cabinets and then put the lights on which will take time and money. I would go to a lighting store and ask about lighting that will work for your situation. Many lighting stores (not home stores like Lowe's or Home Depot) will have access to thousands of specialty lights which will cost you but it is going to cost either way. Good luck.

maybe you could try using a pipe or ceiling fan extender pole to make the light fixture come further out from the wall

You might want to consider replacing the Vanity Lamp with Pot Lights or even a Ceiling Lamp. Many modern bathrooms are installed only with ceiling lamps. You have beautiful cabinets and they are not compatible with the existing lamps.

I just looked at the pictures again. Maybe use better bulbs for the Existing Pot Lights or replace them with LED Pot Lights

Have you tried flipping the crossbar so that the globes face upward? That might give off a little more light without too much hassle.

buy some small wooden disks to mount the lights on..drill a hole in the back for the wires. to go through and hang the lights on the disks to the wall..You can paint or stain the disks. You can usually run across unfinished wooden disks with a finish edge at places like joanns hobby lobby etc..There not very expensive and usually come in a few different thicknesses

I think a fence post would work to move them out far enough for them to shine down in front of the cabinets. You could use the caps door the top of posts on the end. Stain them the same as the cabinets or the color of the wall. They would look like a piece of furniture. Drill holes for the wiring and attach the lights to the posts and the post to the wall. You probably could use a 4 x 4 with a post top on each end. One for each light or put just one running all the way across the wall above the cabinets. The other thought is if the pole holding the 3 lights can be turned so the lights hang down from the base is it possible they can be hung from the ceiling and still open the doors?
