How to DIY a garage

Which way would be the cheapest way to build a garage that is big enough for one car and work areas? I have the space to build a huge one, but I don't want to spend a fortune. I would appreciate any ideas or opinions.

Pole style is the most inexpensive way in my area. You can still put any style roof, siding or door on as you choose, and of course a floor. From the outside it won't look any different than "stick" built.

I had a 30'l x 24'w 2 story pole barn with metal roof built (dried in). I kept the bottom 20 deep x 24' wide open for 2 cars. The back 10'D x 24' of first floor is a workshop with stairs going up to second floor. Over the years, we finished off the upstairs ourselves and made a 30'l x 16' wide rec room/guest room. The area under the eaves upstairs is used for storage. You're best bet for the most bang for your buck, IMO is a pole barn (dried in) and you can finish it out over time. It is the finishing work that jacks up the price. The reason I kept the area for the cars open is I can pull the cars out and use the large covered area for working on projects. Since it is open on 3 sides, I don't have to worry about fumes building up and don't have to worry if there's a sudden rain or shower.
