Stair Step Your Way To A New Kitchen Backsplash

Do you love the clean, timeless look of subway tile? We do. BUT we also wanted a fresh take on laying out said subway tile so we created a "stair step" pattern that offers enough interest but won't be trend-less in a couple of years.
Because this pattern was a little too "advanced" to just wing it, we opted to trace the tile pattern onto the wall. The probability of a crooked pattern was so very much a reality when it comes to our DIY projects! So the lucky husband spent a few hours tracing...and tracing and tracing.
Of course, once the mastic was spread on the walls it covered up the traced-out pattern! But all that prior tracing did result in a straight pattern and one that lined up as it wrapped around the kitchen. And that's what matters, right?!

Where did you get enough subway tile to do your kitchen and everything you needed to do it for $60? I would love to do this, especially if it's that affordable!
