You can recover the shade with Burlap or any other fabric. Paint it ,put beads on it.

When I was looking for ideas to redo a lampshade I have, I went on youtube.com and there are a lot of great ideas. I had originally was looking to repaint the shade as it is rather large and I cannot find one like it. On youtube they gave me ideas on covering it with fabric and showed how to do it. I bought a scrap piece of material to practice with then when I felt I knew what I was doing I recovered the shade in material and if I do say so I think it turned out pretty good.

i would use paper napkins and decoupage them. use only the top layer of the napkin. if the design has images of what you like, you could cut out that part (which is what i always do). please email me for other tips for lampshades that are decoupaged. peppi

I used acrylic paint and leather cords to turn my old lap shade into a fun pop art shade. Made it look like a corset and lips. The lap shade is split up into "sides" by the shape of the corset and their is a corset on each "side" of the shade. Then on opposite sides where it is still a blank lamp shade, I added large sexy lips.
