Glued plastic drain pipe is accessible in unfinished basement ceiling of 2008 home I own. Want to manually unclog every year, like basin & sink easy, without costly Drano which doesn't work well. 1/4" manual snake down thru overflow, stops at J-bend. Do I pay a plumber to customize plumbing?

  • The trap can be cut out and a new trap installed with drain on bottom. Depending upon your ability this can be a diy job or one of a plumber.

I would rework it with a trap that has a drain port or open up some of those really tight corners with some sanitary elbows. You have enough room there to install a full sized clean out.

I have a unit with that kind of drain and it bonds differently from PVC. Once glue is applied, it bonds instantly, no adjusting the position. Sometimes dumping a box of baking soda into the drain will open it up, and I also use hair catchers made of screen to catch any debris that may fall in.
