Any frugal ideas to add storage to my walk-in closet? Emphasis: CHEAP

Hi everyone! I just moved into a lovely new apartment and the one shortcoming is that I have no linen closet, no bathroom cabinet - in short, there is almost no storage. I'm not one to hoard so I don't need a whole lot of storage, however, I would like very much to have some cabinet-like storage for linens, undies, stockings, sunglasses, gloves, etc. in the closet. I'd rather not have a dresser to stick these things in. But since this is an apartment and I don't own it, I'm limited as to what I can (and want) to commit to. Any ideas? I was thinking about something like those kitchen rolling carts, just taller and with maybe 6 or 7 pull out baskets or drawers but I have no idea where I'd even look for that. I've posted on FreeCycle in my area to see what might come up, but in the meantime, have any of you wonderful people got any ideas short of installing anything permanent-ish in the closet? I'll even consider hanging bins on the wall but what kind? I'm just looking to do something with that back wall where the mirror is currently standing. Thanks in advance. PS - Practical, CHEAP and NOT PERMANENT

@Thank You Janet Pizaro I've lived on Pinterest the last week trying to find something quick easy and inexpensive. However, this gave me the idea of adding some removable wallpaper to that back space and hanging the mirror that's currently standing on the floor! Thank you!!

You could use command hooks to hold baskets or bins along that mirror wall. I'd suggest getting a bookcase, but you'd have to anchor it to the wall to be safe, and since you're renting you probably don't want to do that. You also have quite a bit of room on the shelf above your clothes for cubby-style cubes that could hold a lot of stuff as well.

If you have a tight corner, hang an extra tension rod with shower curtain hooks so you can see your scarves, belts, etc.

@Jackie Thanks, Jackie. You can't see it but I've already got that part covered. I had one of those closet extender kinda things from my old apartment in NJ that I brought with me. So that's hanging just to the left under the FDNY shirt there in the front. You can see a bag actually with the red straps hanging from it. I'm going to use the lower level for belts and such. Handbags are to the back left all on huggable hangers you just can't see them. I might even move those to the front lower level with the other accessories for easier access. Still working it out! Thanks!!

A cube bookshelf with cane baskets or fabric cubes, it then becomes a multi-use piece of furniture

Check out staples for rolling plastic units with drawers. ..i think they would work for you or perhaps a old file cabinet for drawers you could even put dowels in it to "hang" linens in lieu of folders...dont forget vertical wall space

@Thank You Moxie - I literally rented a car 2 weeks ago and drove 165 miles ONE WAY to the nearest Ikea (I needed a day trip and it was my b-day) and didn't even think about the closet situation then. That might work. However, I have to share this, I did find some small shelves for 50 cents a piece that were closing out so I bought 10 of them for my bathroom! Now I have somewhere for all my makeup!! Adding a few more this weekend. They're not all hung right now but imagine the wall without. And I also frosted that mirror you can see part of there. Got that idea from Hometalk!! Now you see how those little "shelves" are? I would love a similarly modern simple look in my closet. (That picture stuck on mirror was from my practicing makeup contouring...)

I use cube organizing shelves (you can find them at Target, Walmart, Bed, Bath and Beyond). You can use them to store clothing, linens. shoes, bags, almost anything. They come in 2 or 3 different sizes and can be stacked.

You can draw an illustration for the manager or landlord, and discuss the construction details. I made a lot of upgrades on a former apartment, always documenting every change in writing. When i finally moved they kept all my changes and re rented very quickly. People always want more storage.

@Lulu Thank you but not interested in that. I don't plan to be here more than maybe 2 years. It's an adorable apartment, love the kitchen and my fireplace but I am simply not interested or willing to do anything even slight permanent here. I have a car to buy and furniture so...not happening. But thank you for chiming in to help! Keeps the ideas churning!!

See this is why you all are my people!! I just knew once we started chatting about this it would get the juices flowing and now I've found a CHEAP solution that I think will work out fine. I'm about to order on Amazon RIGHT NOW before the price shoots up if it gets popular (I see you all looking - LOL)! This will work for me. It's less than $20, not a heavyweight but that's fine since it's only for lingerie, socks, bras and such. Boom! I wanna hear from you - whaddya think? And if you want to see more such items, do a search on Amazon for portable closets. There are several colors and configurations and what I like most is when and if I move, all I have to do is break it back down. http://amzn.com/B00SR5X73C UPDATE: I just measured and it's a bit too wide - 53". But I'm still looking for something like that just not as wide and hopefully freestanding instead of hanging from rack. Dammit. It's so cheap I might just go with it and work around it.

And this one could have worked out but too wide. I just measured and I don't want to go wider than 36 inches/3 feet. http://amzn.com/B016W94MXS

Okay everyone, here's the deal. @Janet Pizaro reminded me to hit Pinterest (which I'd already done) but with a quick second look just now, I've decided not to go with the portable wardrobe idea. I like having that back wall blank and I think I'll actually add some removable wallpaper to the back wall where you see my mirror currently on the floor. Then I'll put my small ottoman in there so I can sit and dress right in the closet. Like a movie stahhh! So, instead of bothering with a more "furniture-like" storage idea, I think I am going to opt for one or two of the hanging storage options - I have the room for it on my rods once I finish organizing things. OOH! I just had a cheaper, easier and less messy idea for that wall - wall decals!! This closet is going to be adorable. I just needed you all to get my mind going. Thank you for that. I am marking this resolved for now and will certainly return with photos for you to see the after. Here are a couple photos of what I plan to do - generally. I'm going to order the hanging unit now on Amazon and I'll have to figure out what kind of wall decals I'd like so this is just an example, not the final choice. BTW, wall decals are dirt cheap on wish.com but you have to wait to get them. At least they have a lot of options.

We stacked two shelves like this http://tinyurl.com/z4zm5d5 on both sides of this shelf http://tinyurl.com/huq4zca and then added baskets to make drawers and stacked bulky jeans on the center shelf and shoes underneath. And, the price was great and easily portable when we moved.

I'd buy rubber coated cup hooks and hang dollar store plastic baskets, remove baskets and leave hooks for some one else to hang things on.

Keep your mirror, mounted with removable strips. Mount a similar one on the inside of the closet door. When you are in your "dressing room", you can check your appearance in almost 3D. Being on the door, the mirror can be adjusted for different angles.
