Movie Night? Make Your Own Projector Screen for Less Than $100

For years - I'd say more than five - we've talked about buying a projector and last year we FINALLY took the plunge and bought a beauty. One that fits our needs and works perfect for our lifestyle. Of course my husband is the tech-savvy one of the bunch so he did all the research and so far we've been happy with our Epson VS230 projector. It had great reviews, was reasonably priced and compact enough to travel with. We originally bought it for when we go camping in our pop-up trailer. Yes, you heard me right. We watch movies in our pop-up! I'll have to share how we do this in a future post. It's genius, if I do say so myself. :) It's been AWESOME and definitely a memory-maker!
With a few items purchased from Amazon and Lowes, you can make one too. Any size, big or small.
Are you a movie enthusiast or do you know someone who is? Get ready to create something awesome!

Here's the supplies you'll need:

From Amazon:

Clark's Blackout Cloth: $39.95

From Lowes:

6 Primed MDF Boards: $21.42

Valspar Satin Black Paint: $8.36

Grand Total: $69.73 (BAM!)
Here's how we were watching our movies before. Just a plain old wall and not exciting at all.
Getting ready to paint the MDF.
My paint helpers! This actually was the most time consuming part (waiting for paint to dry) but even then it still went pretty fast.
After the paint dried, we measured the wall, cut the boards to size and nailed the bottom piece up. We eyeballed where we wanted the actual screen to sit based on the placement of our couch and then moved on from there.
We repeated this step for the top and side boards.
Once the boards were nailed up, we stapled and stretched the blackout cloth to the boards -- this is definitely a two-person job. Stretching is a must. The cloth was obviously bigger than our wall so we cut one side and the bottom AFTER we had it stapled up. It doesn't have to be perfect because you will be adding boards on top.
Here's what the screen looked like once it was stapled and stretched on the boards. Pretty simple, right?
With the screen in place and secure, it was time to add the finishing touch. The frame! To do this, we nailed the remaining boards on top of the cloth. Then to hide the nail holes, we filled them with wood putty and then painted over them.
That's it! Now go grab the kiddos, some popcorn, your favorite movie and kick back and relax. It's movie night!!

How did you make the picture fit the screen so perfectly ? I don't see any overlap or any white screen showing. Nice job.
