Bathroom Design & Décor

My favorite transformation: From Builder Blah to Remodel Revamp! ON A BUDGET!

This bathroom was your typical, builder beige, with the builder beige walls and pre-fab sink. I added molding to the walls in a non conventional way, did a color on color treatment for the paint on the walls, new faucet, new marble counter top, new knobs (same cabinet), new light fixture, new toilet (water conservation toilet), and my personal artwork photography for a little whimsy and YES I did it all myself including cut the marble mini molding surrounding the sink! The only thing I did not do was the marble sink cutout , I bought it from a stone place , they cut it for me from a carrera marble remnant.

Think outside the box to stay within a small budget!

You can ALWAYS DIY! I rented the special saw that uses water to be able to cut the marble tile for the backsplash molding. Get inspired and do a project!

Mary the total bath re-vamp costs were approx: $975 (remember my labor was *free*

You do NOT have to do as much as I did which was:

new marble (bought carrera remnant from granite place they cut it and installed that was about $300) this was my splurge!

    new sink ...»

    new faucet

    door handles on cabinet

    towel holder

toilet holder (definitely not everyone is going to have this cost!)

picture frames (I inserted my black and white art photography)

    garbage can

paint for walls (the white was already there!)

    light fixture

    molding

marble molding on top of sink backsplash

    new doorknob on door

I buy everything I can on clearance even if it takes me a while to find the right item at the right price. Also I get all my tile and such (marble molding for example) at http://www.flooranddecoroutlets.com/ or I scope Lowe's and Home Depot for clearance tiles/wood etc..

The cabinet is the SAME one that was there

(I am going to change the doors and faux drawers on cabinet- I ordered them from Lowe's gave them the measurements I wanted them in and got them in real wood and am painting them white to match the room, but now instead of laminate doors it will be wood and that total cost is about $100), the floor is the same and unchanged, the mirror is the same one that was there.

Janet W, I used flat first and painted the whole area flat gray, then I bought the SAME grey in gloss and taped out my diamonds and painted them in in the gloss paint. Voila! Super easy, same thing you can do for stripes or whatever other design you dream up, saw it on HGTV one day.

HandyANDY- the beadboard would look beautiful in a more traditional home but my taste is if frustrated MODERN in a Builder grade home! LOL!

Patricia, this was one of my first BIG DIY tackles, learned after it was all said and done I was off on the chair rail, chose to leave it that way rather than tear it down and do it over. Plus it shows that we don't have to be perfect you just have to be willing to put in a little sweat equity and YOU CAN DIY!

I love seeing bathroom remodels as I am in desperate need. But my biggest remodel problem is the bathtub and surround. I would love to see tub/shower remodels. Need all the inspiration I can get.

Very nice remodel. I love how you did the paint job and also thanks for explaining it. I think that I will have to do the same thing the next time that I repaint the bathrooms.( i just did two weeks ago)

Umm was it this week or last week, on Wed? I am really not impressed with women on Survivor, they are always glomming onto the men, now they have a separate tribe and both tribes are on the same beach! These women cant agree on anything, losing all the challenges. I do think challenges are in favor of men tho, women dont have the same strength usually. Bickering...can't work together as a team. In my experience , women in general , A LOT OF TIMES...dont respect each other enough to ...»
really get something done. Now don't everyone come down hard on me, I said A LOTOF THE TIME..NOT ALWAYS..OK?

It is lovely, but I would have trimmed out the mirror and used wood molding to match the wall and have it even? And then a shelf or crown molding on top of the mirrow to match the ceiling.
