Teen Boy Bedroom Makeover

6 Months
Medium
I was a bit surprised when my son asked me to find a desk for his room. Surprised because he hardly asks for stuff, shoes, or clothing, much less a desk. And he didn't stop there... He immediately requested a little update to his room.
I knew his love for trains was long gone, even though the walls were still sporting the train tracks we painted when he was four. So, for the next six months I worked hard to give him the room that would welcomed him to his teen years.
My final goal was to give the room a vintage - industrial look. Of course, adding many of the elements that I knew he liked, or he requested, because he became very opinionated during the renovation.
This was the staring point.. The ceiling and walls had to be painted.
However, my first big project: Turning a basic - one shelf closet - into a space full of storage. Cubbies, rods, in wall bins, and a shoe tower were packed into the tiny closet. The final touch: a vintage sliding door.
Next up the list... replace the dirty carpet for "hardwood" floors. Well, only that these were DIY-plywood floors. We're loving them!

The initial request, the desk, was a free Craiglist find.
Another desk was brought to the room -making some adjustments to it - Both repurposed desks are the bases to the built-ins around the bed. Paint gave them a unified look.
After all the big projects were done, I had lots of fun working on the decor. A big industrial letter M on the wall, clocks that got old with just paint, book holders out of door remnants...
Adding lights all around the room, and a focal white brick wall. ;)
Well, it was lots of work, but I'm so glad with the end result. My son? He loves his new room, it has the desk, the red accents he likes, some splashes of his favorite video game, Rocket League, and a comfy bed that he chose by himself!
