Has anyone had experience with the thermostats that automatically adjust the temperature to stay constant?

We have a programable thermostat but in Georgia there are times in the winter when we need AC and it would be wonderful to have this done automatically. This could save our marriage since I hate waking up at 4 AM in a pool of sweat! Is the cost prohibitive? Whatever it is, I'm sure it's cheaper than an attorney.

What you are looking for is a thermostat with an "auto changeover" function. Many of the Honeywell touchscreen thermostats have this on them and they seem to work pretty well. AC + winter is not something I'm too familiar with...we woke to 14 degrees today with windchill well below zero. Most of the thermo's I have worked with just have a basic heat / cool switch...its not to hard to go back and forth.

KMS- it was 76 degrees in my house last night with just the blower on and 60 outside. We had to open the doors and window to let some cool air in "for free". Since the RH was right at 52% it was perfect weather.

Many brand thermostats can be purchased to auto convert to heat and cool or the other way around. You see these a lot in commercial buildings where they need heat in early AM but once the office turns on and lights and people come in they then need AC system to operate. You can get this for your home, but its not just as simple as that. Many AC systems have operational design temps that they must work within. And if its too cool outside and then need AC you could find yourself burning out the AC system. Contact your local HVAC professional and once they know your equipment type and size they may be able to help you out with a cost effective solution to your issue. However homes temps do not change that much over the evening. Most cool down at night and do not get warmer. Perhaps just setting the control to lower when you go to bed at nigh and then have it auto back up to warm just before you rise you would not suffer from the temp swings your experiencing.

Thanks so much for all the replies. My sweet husband came home today with a new Honeywell and has it installed. I hope this solves the problem. Already it seems to be working well. Of course, it's supposed to get cold again in the next few days. The cost wasn't bad at all, $100, so we'll try this/. I will have our HVAC guy check it out too. Thanks again for all the info.
