Has anyone had the pleasure of cooking with a steam oven?

This is a convection oven where you can choose the amount of humidity in the oven to keep food moist. You can even steam rice in the oven or you can bake bread and mist to for a crust without opening the oven. We were able to use one and now I want one in my new kitchen.
This is the Gaggenau version of the steam oven.

  • No, but you got my attention and I have a question. About 10 years ago when we remodeled our kitchen, we installed a GE ADVANTEUM oven ( kinda microwave/convention) I've never heard of that advertised again. WE HAVE LOVED IT! omg it saves us SO much time because we really cook healthy food everyday. Do you carry the Advanteum Oven? How does this steam oven compare?

They are a different technology. There is another brand of oven that uses convection in combination with microwave called turbochef. We used one for a client that had to have it and she loves it. They are expensive and a bit retro looking. The steam oven uses convection and steam to cook food. The ovens are plumbed and drained (some have a tank option) The advantage of steam is it will not dry out the food and the addition of steam gives you a variety of cooking types from regular convection cooking to full on steaming for fish or veggies or even rice.

I know the Turbochef ovens are all the rage in the professional kitchen world, but they are way above my price range. Apparently, they are basically what sub places like Quizno's uses to melt your cheese and toast your sammy so fast. So how much do these steam ovens run?

The steam ovens are available from the high end lines like Gaggenau and Miele and are around the 8000.00 price point. There is one available from Thermador as well I believe.

Wolf Steam convection oven for about $4000. Smarter than the chef and sooo wonderful! homemade pizza into a cold oven - 22 minutes later beautifully dark brown with crunchy crust. Whole turkey breast? 45 minutes golden brown skin tender and moist - yep started in cold oven. The oven has a water container that you keep full and it injects it into the oven itself. Watching it bake things is way better entertainment than the TV! Next favorite appliance to the central vacuum! (Induction cook-top is third!)

Whoa. Does that mean you can bake a cheesecake without the water bath?
